The series Studies in Vilt started in 2021 with the question: do we have a certain memory when it comes to patterns? The need to show the work in a spatial setting soon arose. In order to investigate the relationship of the patterns with elements of architecture and vice versa. The series consists of graphic patterns made of wool felt on foam plates. The plates give the work a spatial character. The Art Chapel used to be the Chapel of the Roman Catholic St. Nicholas Lyceum, with an associated monastery. The modernist building, designed in 1959 by Lau Peters, consists of an eight-storey high-rise and a characteristic round part that served as a training room for priests in training. While traditionally referencing the player, I focused on the supporter, the community united by love for the club and its players. Through research into fan cultures, I examined how symbols, colors, and patterns convey connection and belonging. Fandom is never solitary; recognition by others transforms personal passion into shared experience. The supporter’s flag becomes a visual extension of this identity, amplifying presence, allegiance, and collective energy. In this series, I created five red-and-white flags inspired by the most popular Dutch football clubs, each with a unique pattern of the same colors. NADERHAND What memories do hands retain when the mind no longer cooperates seamlessly? Based on this question, I started working with people with dementia in nursing homes, through the use of clay, painting, drawing and collage. In small groups we searched for habits through creative methods, each time rearranged in different configurations. Sometimes accompanied by grumbles, sometimes by lively conversations and sometimes it all went by itself. But all the while the hands worked unconsciously. If not in a visual way, then by fidgeting and fiddling. The shapes from these sessions are incorporated in crafted tablecloths,&nbsp;which found their place on tables where countless hours are spent in nursing homes.&nbsp;It is during these moments that hands become occupied, guided by instinct rather than conscious thought. &nbsp; &nbsp; The designs of the tablecloths are inspired by timeless patterns, reminiscent of archetypal motifs, but with added tactile surprises. Delicate beads concealed beneath the fabric, creaking foil, an interplay of lines of high-pile yarn. Both functions, living and playing, are thoroughly embedded in the architecture, with visual passages, distorting mirrors, sunken play areas, differences in height and small steps up and down.&nbsp; &nbsp; In 2018 the Burgerweeshuis was taken over by Bouwfonds Project Development (BPD). The old function room is now used by BPD as a meeting room. From the outset, the space had a problem with its acoustics.I&nbsp; was asked to create a graphic, wall-sized tactile piece that would correct the sound problem but also engage with the special history of this heritage site.&nbsp; &nbsp; Speelwerk (play-work) is an installation of 1,752 small squares of PET felt with wool felt. Each square can rotate on its axis and changes colour when it does.&nbsp; &nbsp; The wall is interactive and tempting to touch and play with, a principle that harks back to Van Eyck’s philosophy. Carbon paper traced their movements—creating an imprint of each action.&nbsp; &nbsp; Displayed together, the variations in folding techniques and different approaches to the exercise created a communal trace, a pattern of thoughts.
